First Round: Greenfield-Central (60-45 W)
The Cougars shot poorly, which helped the Dragons out. However, New Palestine was in control of the game for the entire game. In fact, they were able to put in their benchwarmers in the end and still win by 15. Like the Fortville game in the regular season, the Dragons shot well (in this game). Semifinal: Connersville (56-47 W) Redemption is sweet. The Dragons redeemed themselves from their regular season loss against the Spartans. This game obviously meant more than the regular season one, but like I said, redemption is a good feeling to have. Redeeming themselves against Connersville punched the Dragons' ticket to the Sectional Championship. Championship: Fortville (61-43 W) It is always a good day to beat Mt. Vernon - especially to seize the Sectional Championship Title. Like the last time these two teams met, the Dragons shot well. The Marauders shot well too, but not as good as the Dragons. New Palestine has a tough road ahead of them, but they should be prepared for it. #BeatAvon

It is always a good day to beat Mt. Vernon. The Dragons' shooting helped defeat the Marauders. Had New Palestine not shot as well, they would have lost for sure. This game was foreshadowing of the postseason... Whiteland (62-63 L) A heartbreaker. I was not able to attend this game, but I watched it on Hudl afterwards. I obviously knew the outcome before I watched it, but I still had to watch it so I could go back and correct the statistics. All in all, the Dragons bounced back the next game. Greenwood (47-34 W) Senior night was a success. A huge crowd came out, and the Dragons got the win. This was a good early start to the postseason. After the loss to Whiteland, this helped New Palestine bounce back. The Dragons ended the regular season with a 14-8 record. It marked back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2012-2013. 2/13/2019 0 Comments Boys Games 16-19 (2-2 Record)@ Perry Meridian (55-59 L)
The Dragons lost to the Falcons narrowly. The referees may have played a large role into that late in the game; however, the Dragons did indeed keep shooting themselves in the foot. They did so by turning the ball over carelessly, missing free throws, etc. Richmond (53-48 W) The Dragons got a close win against Richmond. This was a much-needed win after losing their previous game. It was at home, which also helped. All that matters though is that they got the win. @ Shelbyville (66-64 W) New Palestine got another win - this time against the Golden Bears. Shelbyville's Kuhn led both teams in scoring, but that was expected. He was their only hope in beating the Dragons. However, he could not overcome the Dragons alone. @ Connersville (49-50 L) Like the Perry Meridian game, the referees did not help late in the game. They made atrocious calls late in the fourth quarter. However, the blame cannot only be placed on the referees. No game's outcome should ever be decided by the referees. 2/13/2019 0 Comments Girls playoff games (1-1 record)Greenfield (46-23 W)
The New Palestine Dragons faced the Greenfield-Central Cougars in their first playoff game. They were able to double the amount of points the Cougars scored. Greenfield was able to stick with the Dragons for the first quarter of the game, ending the first quarter only two points down. However, the Dragons outscored them 35-14 in the remaining three quarters. Neither team shot well from behind the arc. Both teams combined for a total of two made threes (out of 20). Fortville (29-35 L) In their second playoff game of 2019, the Dragons continued their poor performance from three-point range. They only made one three (out of sixteen attempts). The Marauders were not much better; however, they were efficient from two-point range. They were also able to get to the stripe seven more times than New Palestine. From the free throw line alone, the Dragons were outscored four to twelve. 1/31/2019 0 Comments Girls games 21-22 (2-0 Record)vs. Lawrence Central (86-48 W)
A blowout - again. The New Palestine Girls Basketball team is good. It does not get much simpler than that. When a team scores almost ninety points in a game where eight minute quarters are played, that is simply ridiculous. Speaking statistics-wise, my job is a lot more fun because we are obviously hitting shot after shot. vs. Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter (67-55 W) This game was not a blowout like the previous one, but the team went 1-0 on the night. This is all one can ask for a team to do: Go 1-0. This win was significant because it marked their twentieth win of the season. This is the first twenty-win regular season for girls basketball at New Palestine High School. So, they made history... CONGRATULATIONS! #OnToThePlayoffs #NewPalProud #DragonNation #BleedRed #GoDragons 1/31/2019 0 Comments Boys Games 12-15 (3-1 Record)@ Roncalli (67-60 W)
This game marks the "over halfway-point" in the season. I am becoming better and better at taking statistics while the team is playing at a higher level. This win was pretty exciting to be honest. The atmosphere of the game was just great overall - a large crowd, both ways. @ Franklin Community (57-62 L) This was the only loss of this four game stretch, which is pretty good. Winning 75% of one's games is always a plus. I mean, one wishes they could win them all, but losing is just a part of the sport. vs. Yorktown (65-41 W) The Yorktown game was homecoming. SO, this was the best game crowd-wise. The student section was filled to the top. There were very few "open seats" in the gym. Also, Jacob, the homecoming king, fired up the crowd whenever he played. vs. Rushville (86-40 W) Rushville was a complete blowout. I was not expecting this. I looked at their record and compared it to Yorktown's, but I guess numbers do lie sometimes... At least, one should know the context of the numbers if they are going to predict whether or not a game is going to be worse or better than another. 1/18/2019 0 Comments Girls Games 13-20 (7-1 Record)vs. Yorktown (39-36 W)
This game was the lowest scoring game of the season for the Dragons. However, they pulled out the win which is what's the most important. A win is a win. Honestly, I do not recall this game whatsoever, but it is what it is. vs. Whiteland (47-29 W) I do not recall how this game went. I think Dane might have filled in for me for this game. So, all that matters is that the Dragons got another one in the W column. @ Perry Meridian (40-31 W) This game was super boring, but they pulled out a win. Like I said before, all that matters is the amount of W's in that column. vs. Greensburg (53-48 W) This was the first game of the tournament held at New Palestine High School. I could not make it to this tournament due to me being at the boys' tournament, so i had Dane take statistics from this tournament for me. vs. Noblesville (43-32 W) This was the second game of the tournament held at New Palestine High School. I could not make it to this tournament due to me being at the boys' tournament, so i had Dane take statistics from this tournament for me. @ Triton Central (49-57 L) This snapped our 12-game winning streak. It was a bad game overall. Jordan got into foul trouble, which limited our offense while our defense could not contain the Trojans. I started taking these statistics on my own (without Devon) to save paper and because female basketball is slower and a lot easier to catch everything. @ Pendleton Heights (52-40 W) The Dragons avoided losing their first back-to-back games of the season by defeating the Arabians. They got back on track by winning by double-digits. I am getting better and better at taking these statistics on my own. @ Beech Grove (69-39 W) This game was a blowout. Several faces you typically do not see had significant minutes. Beech Grove was simply just not as good as New Palestine. A girl hit her head really hard on the floor and took forever to get off the court, but good thing she was fine (I think). 1/18/2019 0 Comments Boys Games 1-11 (7-4 Record)@ Greenfield (75-65 W)
This was the first game of the season and it was a doubleheader. Alex and I took statistics together for the first time of the season. It went well. He picked it up quickly unlike Devon. Also, New Palestine pulled out the win even though Greenfield got off to a hot start shooting-wise. Maximus tied his career-high of 27 points. However, he missed 6 out of his 11 free throws. @ Westfield (63-73 L) The game against Westfield was the first loss of the season, so it was not a good game obviously. Alex and I got in the groove though and missed barely any statistics. Dawson had himself a day though by scoring a career-high 29 points while grabbing 14 rebounds. vs. New Castle (84-59 W) This game was the home season opener and it was an exciting one. Dawson lead the way with 25 points - including 3 dunks. We also took a massive enough lead to put some of our bench warmers in, which made taking the statistics a little unique. For example, we had to put Austin and Luke instead of the normal starters. However, it was not difficult. It was still taking statistics - just for different players. vs. Franklin Central (67-63 W) The game against Franklin Central was the most exciting game of the year at the time. We came back from a large deficit in the first half to win the game narrowly. What surprised Alex and I was that Maximus was able to draw many fouls. He had a total of 18 free throw attempts while Franklin Central only had 14 the entire game as a TEAM. vs. Shenandoah (70-67 2OT W) I know I have been saying this all along, but THIS game has been the most exciting game of the year. Obviously, it went into two overtimes and that is just exciting in itself. Honestly, it was a shootout between both teams, so Alex had a more difficult job than me because he keeps track of all the shots, assists, etc. However, I did have to record all the rebounds on the missed shots. vs. Beech Grove (63-50 W) Honestly, I missed the first half of this game because I went to the wrong location (and Alex could not make it); however, I went back to Hudl and watched the film to make sure I got the statistics. I do that anyways to make sure the statistics I take are accurate, but since I missed the first half, I had to use a stopwatch and start/stop it whenever there was a dead ball to get the minutes played. @ Decatur Central (53-62 L) This game ended our 4-game win streak; however, that is fine. Losing is part of sports and you just have to accept that. We were able to play with them for the first half; however, they came out in the third quarter and outscored us 21-11. That basically sealed the deal for them. @ Delta (48-64 L) This game marked back-to-back losses for the first time this season. As you can see in the previous game's description, there isn't really much to talk about. We shot 37% from the field while they shot 55% from the field. You aren't going to win games when you shoot 18% worse than your opponent. vs. Southport (46-48 L) This was a heartbreaking loss. We had a chance to win this one at the horn, but Dawson did not get his shot off in time to win it. This marked our third loss in a row... @ Pendleton Heights (71-65 W) This game got us back on track with a win. Honestly, we should have lost this game in the end. If we had played one more quarter, we would have lost most likely. We got off to a really great start (19-5 after one quarter of play), but slowed down in the last 3 quarters. @ Mooresville (61-54 OT W) Even though this game went into overtime, it was not a fun/exciting game to watch at all. The game was just slow and boring to be honest. However, we pulled out another win. This marked back-to-back wins for the second time this season. 12/12/2018 0 Comments Girls games 9-12 (4-0 Record)@ Delta (75-26 W)
Devon could not make it to this game; ergo, I went to this game alone and recorded every statistic. It surprisingly was not as difficult as I thought it would be. I think I only missed a few statistics. They won in dominating fashion. However, Jordan Reid twisted her ankle - I think - and was injured. She ended up sitting out a couple games after this one. @ Shelbyville (85-49 W) The game against Shelbyville was back to the usual. Devon and I went and took statistics together once again. Alex - my partner for the boys statistics - came and watched us take statistics so he could see what to do. It was just like every other game. @ Greenfield (56-36 W) The game against Greenfield was the first game of a double-header. The boys played Greenfield right after so I got a double dose of basketball that Friday night. I enjoyed it. It was closer than other games (even though it was not close). @ Mt. Vernon (46-40 W) The game against Mt. Vernon was the most exciting game of the year. They started to pull away in the middle of the game; however, they allowed Mt. Vernon back into the game late in the fourth quarter which made me a little nervous. They pulled it out though. 11/30/2018 0 Comments Girls Games 2-8 (6-1 Record)vs. Greenwood (74-31 W)
The game against Greenwood was a bit less stressful than the first games against Connersville. It was less stressful because I had grasped what I needed to do each game in order to not miss any statistics. I still missed several statistics; however, I did not miss too many. vs. Southport (62-40 W) The game against Southport was a little bit different because my partner in crime, Devon, could not make it. Ergo, I asked my friend, Dane, to fill in for him. I was surprised at how quick he picked it up, but wasn't surprised at all. Once taking statistics with Dane, I asked him if he could fill in whenever Devon or I could not make it. He agreed and I am very thankful that he has done so. At Franklin Central (58-33 W) The game against Franklin Central was the first away game that Devon and I had gotten a complete grasp of taking statistics. We felt good about the statistics we recorded. We decided to treat ourselves by going out to eat after the game. At Lawrence North (44-75 L) This was the first game Devon and I missed; ergo, I had Dane fill in for us. This was the first loss of the season, so I was a little bit happy that I had not attended the game to be honest. I hate losing - even when I'm not the one playing/contributing to the team's losing effort. vs. Rushville (62-50 W) The game against Rushville was probably the most exciting game of the year so far. Rushville got off to a fast start while we got off to a slow start; however, we ended up outscoring the Lions 38-20 in the second half. Overall, it was an exciting win. vs. Indian Creek (56-43 W) Neither Devon or I could make it to the Indian Creek game, so I had Dane fill in for us. He missed quite a bit, but that is understandable since he was doing it all alone. However, I appreciate him recording each time there were substitutes. This helped me fill out the Analytics Workbook. vs. New Castle (58-37 W) Devon and I decided to switch who was taking which statistics. He originally was taking offensive rebounds, defensive rebounds, steals, turnovers, blocks, and personal fouls while I was recording field goals attempted, field goals made, 3-pointers attempted, 3-pointers made, assists, free throws attempted, and free throws made. |
